EVENTS FOR CURRENT STAFFERS

Each November, AELJ hosts an event in conjunction with the Grammy Foundation. This past year a variety of panelists and artists discussed the topic of A&R and the Law. In addition, each spring, as part of the Intellectual Property Program at Cardozo, there is a Distinguished Lecture speaker, who addresses an important area of trademark, copyright, or patent law. In 2007, the speaker was Professor James Boyle from Duke University School of Law, and in 2006, the speaker was David Nimmer, author of Nimmer on Copyright.

In addition to these events, each year’s Editorial Board schedules their own programs. In 2006-2007, AELJ hosted an evening workshop on Access and Ownership Issues in Legal Scholarship, as well as a 25th Anniversary celebration. There are also social events—pizza parties and bar nights—at which editors and staffers get to know each other and discuss more than bluebooking and legal scholarship.

Finally, throughout the year, there are a variety of speakers scheduled by the Intellectual Property Department at Cardozo that staffers are encouraged to attend.
